The last year and a half have been like nothing we've ever seen before. And that being said, this summer is still wildly different than last summer. As adults across the country are getting vaccinated, but children are not yet able, you may be wondering how to keep your child safe during this time of transition. Read on to learn how to navigate this challenge best.
Have Fun in the Sun
The outdoors is still the safest place to be when it comes to COVID. So take this transition period to engage in some outdoor activities with your kids. Consider something like-
A nature walk
Sidewalk chalk
A bike ride
A game of outdoor twister
A hula hoop contest
An outdoor movie night
Be Patient
This last year has been challenging for kids, but it's not been easy for us parents. So be patient and kind with yourself and others. Though it's frustrating that new recommendations and guidelines are coming out every week, try to remember that that means the scientists are doing their jobs. And with new information, there are bound to be new recommendations.
Continue Washing Masks
Masks have fallen to the wayside in many parts of the country, but some places, such as doctor's offices, still require them. Now that you've gotten out of the routine of throwing in everyone's masks along with your daily load of laundry, it might be hard to remember to keep them clean. Here are some things you can do to help-
Set the alarm on your phone to wash everyone's masks
Buy a pack of disposable masks for the car
Have the kids drop their used masks into a basket as soon as they get home
Wash Your Hands
Yes, we know you've been obsessively handwashing for a year. Yes, we know that your new motto is "Wash your hands" every time you see your kiddo walk in the door. But continuing that hand washing regimen will be beneficial in keeping your children safe during this time.
Consider allowing your kids to pick out the hand soap they want to use, or better yet, let them create their own! Would you mind giving them a song to sing when they wash their hands? Or maybe buy a soft—plushy new hand towel. Anything you can do to get your kids on board with handwashing is going to be worth it.
Get Your Vaccine
This one is obvious, but many people are still hesitant about the vaccine due to misinformation. The best thing you can do to keep your child safe is to address your concerns and get vaccinated. If you're not sure how to address your questions and concerns about the vaccine, here are some resources you can use-
Your family doctor
The CDC website
Your state's website
Do your research, get your questions answered, and then get your vaccine.
This summer and all the transitions we're going through are different than what we've seen before. And while it's relieving that the world is reopening, it is still hard to keep your kids safe during this time of transition. Hopefully, these tips will help with that.
